Grasping for Hope
Date of Completion: Jan 23, 2023
Materials: Acrylic Paint, Conte, Charcoal, White Canvas
Purpose: I want to use my painting to help relay negative emotions that can be overcome with the slightest bit of hope when people are having a hard time finding it within themselves on their own. The chalk pastel on the painting represents the physical and emotional scars left behind during someone’s time in darkness. It helps to remind people that they went through the pain that you did during all that time, but still ended up finding hope to take yourself out of the darkness that you were stuck in. These scars try to cover the little bit of hope left inside of you, but not completely. The red splatters help to relay the idea of blood dripping, which is what happens when there is gun violence or anything to do with death that results from the darkness. The blue still continues to show through the scars and darkness. Even if darkness is trying to take over, you should be able to find the hope that gives you motivation and peace of mind.
Different Shades of Love
Date of Completion: Dec 14, 2022
Materials: Oil Paint, Canvas Paper
Purpose: This artwork was inspired by Mark Rothko, where I was able to find a deeper meaning within. While making this painting, I realized that the colour pink that I started off with, was usually associated with the idea of love. Through this, I was able to show what it feels like to fall in and out of love, where it becomes deep affection with red paint, while love has the chance to fade with white paint.
Moving Out of Comfort Zone
Date of Completion: Dec 14, 2022
Materials: Acrylic Paint, canvas paper
Purpose: This artwork was inspired by Bridget Riley, who often spent time making paintings that looked like illusions. The reason illusions always catch people off guard is that the artist steps out of their comfort zone before the audience. When they present this, it seems abnormal to other people. Stepping out of your comfort zones is important to see what happens next and prepare for future circumstances.
Without Mixing Emotions
Date of Completion: Dec 14, 2022
Materials: Acrylic Paint, Canvas paper
Purpose: This piece was inspired by an artist named Pier Mondrian. Through this, various emotions can be relayed through the use of three main colours. Blue can represent sadness, red can represent anger, and yellow can represent happiness. In the end, the artist can look at their artwork and see what they are feeling the most. It can help them identify problems they may be facing, in order to fix them.
Hidden Feelings
Date: Dec 14, 2022
Materials: Acrylic Paint, Canvas Paper
Purpose: This artwork was inspired by Pier Mondrian. Through this artwork, I was able to convey emotions that I usually express in front of people, as a top layer. Underneath all of these happy colours like yellow, I layered the canvas paper with red paint to express the underlying emotions of anger.
Tear Drops
Date: Jun 7, 2023
Materials: Acrylic paint, Canvas Paper
Purpose: Sadness was something I felt every day for a long time, and it's a feeling I am familiar with now. This artwork reminds me of sadness that comes from despair (blue paint) and sadness that comes out of nowhere for no reasons (white paint).
